Small habits require minimal motivation and effort to accomplish. Gradually, these small habits will create something bigger and better for you and your goals. It’s like when you start running. Initially, you may only be able to do a few hundred meters. But gradually, you will find yourself participating in marathons.
Overall, small habits are the habits that make you successful, have the ability to transform every aspect of your life. And this of course also applies to productivity.
Here are some small habits that can be done in about a minute, but will increase your productivity by 100% over time and I called ‘one minute habits that make you successful’
1. Read 3 pages of a book before bed.
You should not lie in bed in a bad mood. Or, even worse, after filling your brain with the unnecessary burdens that come from television programs. Yes, it’s understandable that you want to wind down before going to bed. However, what you do before bed can affect how you wake up and how you feel throughout the next day.
So what is the answer? Read something exciting and inspiring. Ideally, a biography of someone you would consider your hero or a potential mentor.
Since it takes an average of 1.7 minutes to read a page, there’s no excuse not to do this nightly ritual.
2. Start each day with power and purpose.
When you want to start a new healthy habit or step out of your comfort zone, you first need a strong goal to achieve it. As Wayne Dyer, author of The Power of Intention wrote, “The power of intention is the power to manifest, to create, to live a life of unlimited abundance, and to attract the right people into your life, in the moments The right one.”
In fact, every action you take in life can be guided by a purpose. For example, every time you eat, set the intention to eat mindfully. Or, instead of obsessing over the desired outcome of the work, focus on feeling as open as possible in what you do. Just ask yourself, “What do I aim to achieve?”
3. Observe the one minute rule. Google
In general, if you can complete a task in less than a minute, do it immediately. For example, you can reply to a quick email or schedule a meeting. Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, says it’s a good way to keep small, pesky tasks under control. If you have a lot of small tasks or have problems with anxiety, this could be a useful habit in your daily life.
4. Disable all notifications for at least a certain period of time each day.
Switching from one task to another is not something so easy for our brain. Whether it’s an email or a text, even a single notification can distract you from work for up to 40% of your day. Do you think it’s really worth checking that notification you got? Maybe, if you had unlimited time, then yes, you could watch the notification. Unfortunately, this is not realistic. So, if you want to help yourself and your career, you should turn off all notifications for at least 2 to 4 hours every day.
5. Before you say “yes”, think.
A short pause not only gives you time, but also allows you to assess what’s really going on, asking questions like:
• Was this a request? Or was it just a suggestion?
• How much would it cost me if I said yes?
• Will this serve my mission or bring me closer to my goals?
• Is this worth putting on my to-do list?
• Are there other alternatives?
Usually, this process clarifies your thoughts and does not allow you to meet everyone’s demands at once. And, most importantly, it doesn’t allow you to overexert yourself by taking on everything.
6. Limit the number of decisions you make.
Making too many decisions tires the brain and causes fatigue. You can manage your energy by doing the most important things in the morning. Another suggestion would be to make fewer decisions. Throughout the day, use to-do lists to avoid random decisions. After all, lists keep us organized and focused. More specifically, plan the meal you will eat or the clothes you will wear the next day, the night before. Find ways to automate certain decisions, such as automatic bill payments for regular expenses.
